- All storylines come to a close in this final issue of the series. Professor X helps the Fantastic Four combat Magneto, while the X-Men escape from the Mole Man. Havok and the Professor help rescue Polaris from the Promise, and Tobias Messenger, leader of the Promise, dies. Professor X leaves the Martin household, and all the X-Men return to the mansion to celebrate Beast's birthday one week later.

The ending of this book is abrupt, almost as though Byrne had more story to tell, but the book was cancelled; this storyline runs concurrently with the events of Fantastic Four (Marvel, 1961 series) #102-104.
