At a bazaar, sham Sheriff Walt is urged into shooting at a swinging watch, and misses, getting the horse laugh from the crowd. Encouraged by his false "rep as a sharpshooter", outlaws shoot up the town. Wayne rescues Walt from a burning building, tackles the outlaws from horseback, and fires upside down - to hit the watch!
A conniving medicine man, Cha-Ta, accepts "gifts" from tribespeople who fear his magic, for he can turn into a savage hound. Strong Bow investigates by night, catapults from a tree, and captures the dog with a net-arrow. Still, Cha-Ta reappears in the new cage! More investigating finds the caves under the village - and the wild dog! The tribe will deal with the trickster, and Strong Bow suggests he work off his debts!
Lt Dan Foley is assigned to keep an eye on an entire town relocating across a river. Then the surveyor rides in. The "peaceable" Piute Indian stole his map! Why? Foley investigates and learns Red Wolf has altered the map to put the new town in Piute territory - sparking war! Foley sneaks into camp, thumps guards, and alters the map back. When Red Wolf's men fine no settlers, the cavalry drives them home. The chief assures Red Wolf will be punished for stirring up war. And the settlers arrive at their new home.
Silk Black, Johnny Thunder's nemesis, flips a bullet into town, one "Reserved for Johnny Thunder". But schoolteacher John Tane (JT's secret identity) picks it up. He gets knocked sprawling, and secretly changes to Johnny Thunder. Atop the roof, he spots Black's snipers. A rooftop brawl and straight shooting to split Black's guns, and schoolteacher John Tane can parade Silk Black before his students. "The pen can be mightier than the pistol!"
