Sgt Rock always takes point to protect his guys, diving through hedgerows, attacking derelict tanks. The Captain radios to "play coach on the sidelines". When Rock's wounded, he sends guys forward - and they're killed. The Captain pulls him back: his experience is too valuable to lose. Rock works as a clerk handing out ordnance! But a Nazi tank invades the post and blasts away. Rock scrambles for a bazooka and the Captain hands him a rocket. Rock saves the day - and the Captain sends him back to the front line.
In the Pacific, a flattop ace shoots down enemy planes, but keeps losing his airplane to various disasters. The CO orders him to "bring back your ship!" or he's grounded. The pilot takes off in a Corsair and returns flying a Japanese fighter. Turns out he ditched, was picked up by the Japanese, but stole the plane instead. He shoots down more aircraft and lands his stolen plane. The skipper allows a "swap" this one time. But next time...
Letters from Dick Healey, Barry Solerin, and Stan Rybel.
Rock thanks many readers by name for letters to Gunner and Sarge in "Our Fighting Forces", then answers questions about torpedoes, tank evasive maneuvers, and the Air Force Scorpion plane.
Hill 39 is the goal. Two paratrooper forces - veteran Germans and green apple GIs - parachute and firefight in the sky. All are blown off course except two enemies. The German and GI tangle chutes, fistfight, occupy a lost tank - and only the GI is left to hold the hill until his buddies arrive.
