- Synopsis
- Beth falls in love with U.S. airman Dan, stationed near her home in England. They become engaged. Dan leaves on a "routine flight" and doesn't return. His commanding officer tells Beth it's "restricted information" but he suggests she "try to forget about Dan Ford and find another boyfriend!" Dan's plane is missing in the Arctic. Beth flies to the USA and is with Dan's mother when he is rescued. Dan and Beth get married.

Helen finally rebels, even getting the eyeglasses she'd always needed, and tells her mother the life of a beauty queen "is not for me!" Helen and Art attend college together and are eventually wed.

It's unclear exactly how old Diane is supposed to be (probably 16 or 17): she says "I'll shed a few years, all the lipstick and the sophistication!" Since she makes a point of George studying for "his college classes," Diane and "the other kids in our crowd" must be a little younger.
