Synopsis:
Volcano Men are appearing on an island, multiplying by splitting, growing large by merging. The Challengers can’t agree on an attack. Ace wants to use LOX, Prof CO2 foam. The team splits to pursue their own methods, but both sides fear “one Challenger might die”. Separate attacks fail, and the boys stop Rocky from making a suicidal rush. Finally they work together. Ace’s LOX cools Prof, who wields super-CO2. Smothered, the Volcano Man crumbles to ash. The Challengers agree to work together from now on.

Synopsis:
The Challengers track Mastermind and his gang with Cosmo's alien senses. But Mastermind's car morphs into a rocket-car and blasts off. An alien, D'Jann, saved their lives with a 'substance converter'. D'Jann seeks his lost pet J'Suna (Cosmo). Mastermind convinces D'Jann the Challengers are criminals. D'Jann sends a giant arrow and giant marbles at the Challengers. Our heroes find Cosmo is oddly distracted. He sniffs his former master just ahead! Mastermind substance-converts the Challengers. Rocky becomes a flame-man, Prof a cloud-man, Red a wind-man, and Ace a two-dimensional man. They're locked in a cell, but work together to fan Rocky's flame and melt the bars. The Challengers flatten Mastermind's gang. Cosmo gets clunked by a falling beam. D'Jann feigns outrage, grabs back the substance converter, and stops the criminals. Cosmo told him the truth! D'Jann decides Cosmo's powers are needed here on Earth, so presents him to the Challengers, then leaves in his rocket ship.

Indexer Notes

Writer id by Bob Hughes. Since Cosmo was never seen or mentioned again, it's possible the Challengers relented and sent him back into space with his alien master.
