This story was adapted from the pulp story "The Devil Master" by Walter Gibson [as Maxwell Grant] that appeared in The Shadow (Street and Smith, 1937 series) v39#3 (230) (September 15, 1941).
Art and signature signed on the last page is consistent with Hall’s art and signature from Crime Does Not Pay (Lev Gleason, 1942 series) #35 (September 1944), including his thick outlines and “S” inside the ears.
Art was previously attributed to Nick DeStephano and Barbara Hall.
