Muto (introduction, in photo); Superman [Klar Ken T5477] (introduction); Lyra 3916 (introduction, co-worker and girlfriend of Klar Ken T5477); Jay Senohl (introduction, called Jay L-3388 in future appearances); PW-5598 (introduction, computer editor, designed by Perry White's descendant Per Wye T7357); Than Quor (chief astronomer of Pluto); Atlanteans (of 30th century, in flashback); Superman [Clark Kent] (of 1965, on view-tape, name on tombstone, born 1920); Superman II through VI (tombstones only)
Synopsis
Years ago, Klar Ken T5477 took over the role of Superman from his father, a role passed from father to son since the original Superman 1000 years before. The descendants of Superman have become immune to all forms of kryptonite, however a chemical residue left in sea water by a past atomic war paralyzes all people of Kryptonian descent. In the year 2965, Superman is deputized by the Federation of Planets to act as a lawman with unlimited powers. Klar is an ultra-news reporter who receives his latest assignment: Muto, one of this Superman's greatest foes, has been seen robbing a Neptunian bank.

Indexer Notes

"No. 1 of a New Series". Future Superman series next in Action Comics (DC, 1938 series) #338.

When Superman is deputized in 2965, the narration says "Thus officially begins the career of the Superman of the year 2965". However, in this and future stories, it is stated that Superman has been active for years prior to this.

Superman of 2965 wears the costume of the original Superman. Klar Ken wears telescopic spectacles to aid him in his search for news. Superman's Fortress of Solitude is in Earth's orbit.
