Synopsis
After her father’s death, Diane gets a job as a typist, turning down her childhood sweetheart Dave’s offer to leave college, get a job, and marry her. Former schoolmate Freddy urges her to come to New York, promising she'll find work as a model. However, “models are a dime a dozen” and she becomes a “dreary, under-paid...city white collar worker!” Diane writes to Dave, pretending to be a success, but he reads between the lines and visits her, reaffirming his love. Although she receives a modeling offer at the last minute, Diane decides to go home and marry Dave.

Synopsis
Della “from the wrong side of the tracks” sets out to get a prom invitation from wealthy student Bruce, rejecting studious but poor Tony. Della doesn’t care that girls who date Bruce get bad reputations. On the night of the prom, Bruce is speeding; he and Della believe he has hit someone with his car, but Bruce refuses to stop. At the prom, Della confesses to Tony, who drives to the scene of the accident and returns with “evidence.” Bruce blames everything on Della, who now sees him for what he is and knows Tony is the guy for her. The “victim” is revealed to be just a scarecrow.
