They create the Althing, "one of the world's oldest governing bodies." Slavs invite the Viking leader Rurik to rule over them. Rollo and his Vikings take over Normandy. French king Charles the Simple co-opts them into his realm. Vikings establish a tenuous colony on Greenland.
