- John; Patsy; Mildred; Aunt Sue; Barbara; Mildred
- Synopsis
- Mildred’s wealthy Aunt Sue says she’ll remember her niece in her will if Mildred writes her every week. Mildred writes letters saying she’s married to her co-worker John and they have a house and a baby. When Aunt Sue announces a visit, Mildred confesses her problem to John and fellow worker Robert, without telling John that she has a crush on him. They arrange to “borrow” a house and a baby, and Robert wins the coin flip to portray Mildred’s husband. Aunt Sue learns the truth and leaves. John and Mildred decide to get married for real.
The premise of this story is similar to "Charley's Aunt" and Damon Runyon's "Madame La Gimp," wherein the protagonist's long-distance web of deceit has to suddenly become reality due to the in-person visit of the deceived individual.
