Issue Notes

• Done in conjunction with the American Forestry Association. Very first appearance of Smokey the Bear. First printing contains back cover ad for the Carter Oil, Co.

• Carter Oil Company sponsored this book which allowed the American Forestry Association to pay for the printing. It was originally scheduled to be printed in January of 1950 (hence the 1950 copyright), but Carter Oil wanted to get this book out in time for Christmas and talked the publisher into printing it in early December, 1949.

• Later variant contains back cover note, "Presented by R. I. Department of Agriculture and Conservation Division of Forests".
