Issue Notes

This issue has variants.

Two covers were initially done for this issue; one by Adam Kubert featuring Superman, and an alternate one by Andy Kubert/Jesse Delperdang featuring Superman (10 issues for 1 issue mixture). The reprints of the primary cover actually use an expanded image with more content; this cover is zoomed in on a portion of that image with the signature moved.

Synopsis:
Superman enters the Fortress, and starts a Jor-El simulation. Later, Perry White bawls out Jimmy for missing a photo. Clark tries to defend him, but Perry goes on about true reporters. Clark sees a ship landing, and slips away. He stops it from crashing too badly, and opens it, to find a boy. Superman takes him to the Department of Metahuman Affairs, and discusses the situation with its director, Sarge Steel, when the boy lifts a huge entertainment unit, and speaks Kryptonese. They talk for a while, and Superman tells him he'll be back before the boy wakes up. Superman goes home, and discusses the situation with Lois. When Superman returns in the morning, the building is empty. He then goes to the department's headquarters in the Pentagon, and breaks in to confront Sarge Steel. Steel admits the boy is being transferred, and thought Superman had been told. Superman uses human means to stop the convoy, and spirits the boy away. He takes the boy to his adoptive parents, wanting their advice on how to raise a boy from another world.

Indexer Notes

Story continues in the next issue. The Kryptonese dialog on page 11 is translated as follows: "I'M HUNGRY." The Kryptonese dialog on the next two pages matches the subtitles. Richard Donner was the director of "Superman: The Movie" and a lot of "Superman II", which much of this story's elements are derived from. This is Donner's first comic book work.
