Synopsis
Betty is irritated that her boyfriend Paul spends time studying for a supervisor’s exam to improve his career prospects. She starts dating Joe instead, who “gives her the gay and carefree life she wants.” Paul gets his promotion but Betty tells him she’s going to marry Joe; Joe says “I never mentioned marriage!” Paul punches Joe. Later, when Joe is trapped in a tunnel cave-in, Paul risks his life to save him. Betty is reunited with Paul in the hospital, now realizing she loves him.

Synopsis
Acting student Gloria bullies the other students, including Ralph, but her “pretty face” allows her to get away with it. Gloria is attracted to Ralph’s roommate Julian, but he isn’t interested. Gloria pushes Ralph and injures him, which may cost Ralph the chance for a scholarship. Gloria decides to throw the competition so Ralph can win, even though that means she has to go home and marry her father’s assistant. However, Ralph decides he doesn’t want to act any more. Gloria wins the contest and Julian, learning what she planned to do for Ralph, decides he loves her after all.

Synopsis
Jean marries Ben and spends too much money trying to compete with her married sisters, while Ben is trying to establish himself in business. When their child is born, Jean continues to show off to her family, making Ben feel like a failure because he isn’t successful yet. Ben decides to leave: “I don’t mind being a possession, but when my son becomes a possession, I do mind…you’ve envied your sisters for so long that nothing else matters.” Jean apologizes to Ben and goes off with him and their child.
