Page 15, panel 4: Originally called Mutant X, Kevin MacTaggert adopts the alias of Proteus for the first time in this issue. In Greek mythology, Proteus is a sea divinity. He can foretell the future and change his shape. The term ‘protean,’ which defines someone or something that can take many forms, is etymologically originated from Proteus.
As mentioned in the previous issue, this episode’s title is once again directly inspired by a famous quote from William Shakspeare: "How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child!" (King Lear. Act 1, scene 4). This title links to the parentage between Moira MacTaggert and Mutant X revealed in this comic (page 8).
