This issue has variants.
This issue went on sale one week late.
Two covers were initially done for this issue; one by Adam/Joe with small pictures, and an alternate one by Gary Frank featuring Superman and Lois Lane (10 issues for 1 issue mixture). The cover style is similar to old 80-page giants, using the old Giant logo and the go-go checks. Some interesting differences between the solicited cover (which looks final) and the final cover: The solicited one has two additional captions: "Who is Clark Kent's Big Brother?" over the Mon-El image, and "The Criminals of Krypton" over the phantom zone criminals. Also, the month (Mar) was there, and a Comics Code seal (not on the final). And the top had only Annual, where the final has 48pg. Giant Annual. And no UPC.
Illustrated with pictures of Zod, Ursa, Non, and Bizarro from Action Comics #845 pages 10, 21, and 22.
There are many homages to the first story of the Earth 1 Mon-El (from Superboy #89) in this story (particulary images on page 8). There is even a nod to post-crisis Valor (this Daxam circles the sun Valor).
A cross section of the fortress, including the interplanetary zoo, Kandor, trophy room and museum, super science lab, and super weapons room.
Much of this was derived from "Superman the Movie".
