The prologue says the story adheres to the chronology of Miller & Clark (which was seen and approved by Howard). The events of this story take place between the Howard stories "Shadows in the Moonlight" (adapted in The Savage Sword of Conan (Marvel, 1974 series) #4) and "A Witch Shall Be Born" (adapted in The Savage Sword of Conan (Marvel, 1974 series) #5).
