Synopsis
Sand recalls how in 1944 the JSA faced dimension-crossing super-villain Johnny Sorrow and how he, as Sandy, accidentally sent Sorrow into the Subtle Realms. There, Sorrow met the King of Tears, who sent Sorrow back to Earth to pave a way for him to cross over. Thanks to the intervention of the Spectre, however, that plan was thwarted. But in the present, Sorrow successfully brings the King of Tears to Earth, and this time the Spectre is nowhere to be seen.

Synopsis
After having transported Wildcat to the Rock of Eternity, Black Adam introduces him to the new Spectre and the trio head back to Earth. But in the meantime, the King of Tears has been ravaging Manhattan and this time the Spectre appears to be no match for the other-dimensional god.

Synopsis
Though the Spectre reconstitutes himself, he must admit he doesn't have to power to take on the King of Tears. Dr. Mid-Nite and Mr. Terrific hatch a plan to have Black Adam transfer his speed to Flash so he can strike the King of Tears at the speed of light, punching him through the fabric of space-time. The plan works, and as the JSA recovers, Flash finds himself in ancient Egypt staring into some familiar faces.

Synopsis
In the present, the JSA tries to help Hawkgirl deal with the news that Kendra Saunders was actually successful in her last suicide attempt and that the spirit of Shiera Sanders Hall now inhabits her body. In the past, Flash learns how a Thanagarian ship crashed in ancient Egypt, bringing with it the secrets of Nth metal. Borrowing Teth-Adam's speed, Flash returns to the present with the Claw of Horus, just after Hawkgirl has been transported away to Thanagar.

Synopsis
As the JSA makes plans to go to Thanagar and retrieve her, Hawkgirl learns how the planet is dominated by Onimar Synn, but how, with her help, the underground plans to raise Hawkman to free them. Just as the JSA arrives on Thanagar, Hawkman emerges from the Well of Spirits to join his once and future love.

Synopsis
The JSA, now joined by Hawkman, takes on Onimar Synn and his forces, but is summarily defeated. With the members of the JSA imprisoned or otherwise dispatched, Onimar Synn has Hawkman and Hawkgirl thrown to their deaths from the floating city of Thalrassa.

Synopsis
Hawkman saves himself and Hawkgirl from their execution and then helps the rest of the members of the JSA escape their own fates and regroup as a team to take on Onimar Synn. But the villain absorbs all the Nth metal on Thanagar, including the Claw of Horus, and the JSA's direct attacks prove useless. It is only when Hawkman and Hawkgirl unite their spirits to take back control of the Claw of Horus and tear Onimar Synn apart from the inside that the villain is defeated.
