When one of the members of the civic league is blown up in his house the remaining members of the civic league phone in Torch and Toro. Torch gets a call from one of Grogan's gang who wants to talk, for a price. When they arrive at his house they find the man dead, and narrowly miss being the victims of a timebomb set to catch them in its blast. Torch finds a galley copy of the local newspaper at the scene and realizes the dead man must have been poisoned by the newspaper editor, since he is the only other member of the civic league who was aware of Torch and Toro's plans. When confronted, the newspaper editor confesses.
