Synopsis

Lana is kidnapped by an insectoid creature, who is looking for Luthor. Superman participates in a baseball game for charity, and smacks a home run towards the moon, at a target there. He finds out about Lana's disappearance, and a robbery at another LexCorp site. He goes there, and is temporarily overcome by insectoids there. After reviving, he tries to get the leader to tell where Lana is, but he and the others all self-destruct instead. Superman traces dust from them to the moon. In a cavern on the moon, Lana revives in time to see the Insect Queen rebirth herself in Lana's image.

Synopsis

The new Insect Queen tells Lana about who she is, and what her hive is going to do. Superman goes to the moon, and finds a hive built there. Lana manages to escape, and finds herself in an old LexCorp lunar base, that the hive is built on top of. She meets up with some workers from the moon base, who are hiding from the hive. Superman is attacked by powerful insects, who overpower him and take him to the Insect Queen. She "stings" him to extract his genes. Chris Kent has a fever, and is watched by a babysitter, but Lois comes home to find him feeling worse. He shows her that his arm that has the red-sun watch is badly swollen, so she takes off the watch, and Chris goes critical with energy, which he explosively releases, blowing out part of the building.

"Bridey Nelson" is an homage to former Superman writer/editor E. Nelson Bridwell. Lois also mentions another babysitter, Mrs. Schwartz, who is probably an homage to former Superman editor Julius Schwartz. Chris has posters in his room that include the covers of Justice Society of America #1 and Superman Returns: The Prequels, and he has a classic Batmobile alarm clock.

Synopsis

Superman is still on the moon held by the Insect Queen. He finds out that she has used his genes to create super-soldier ants. Lana and the remaining moon base workers observe, and Lana slips over to Superman to help free him. Insect Queen returns, but Superman has recovered enough to fly them away. After dropping off Lana, Superman is attacked by the super-soldier ants in moon orbit, with Insect Queen directing them. Superman decoys them into the path of the baseball he hit two issues ago, and it distracts her long enough for Superman to defeat the soldiers, and punch her through some ambrosia, freezing her in suspended animation. All humans are returned to Earth. Superman checks in on Lois and Chris Kent, who had caused the explosion in their apartment building. Chris was scared that Superman would send him away, but Superman reassures him that he belongs as part of the family.

Synopsis

Clark shows Lois and Chris their rebuilt apartment with many features such as a "door" to the fortress. Superman experiments with a cure for Mon-El's lead poisoning, finding out more about Daxam from him. At the Daily Planet, Clark is kidnapped by Paragon, who has tracked his power signature and feeds off Superman's power. Paragon wants revenge for being put away by the Justice League years ago. They fight, but Superman leads him to the fortress. Superman is about to strand him by using the red-sun watch, but they are interrupted by the Priest-Elders of the Protonic Flame from Daxam.

Paragon was created by Busiek and was introduced in Justice League of America (DC, 1960 series) #224 way back in March 1984. Alex Ross designed Paragon's new costume (per an interview with Kurt Busiek at the Comic Bloc website). "Special thanks to Fabian Nicieza, Helper Monkey of Krypton". Kurt later explained this credit (at the Comic Bloc website) this way: he rattled off a story to Fabian using him as a sounding board and editor-at-large. From this verbal plot, he typed up a "beat sheet" -- a page-by-page outline -- and that allowed Kurt to type up the actual plot faster.

Synopsis

Superman's and Paragon's battle is interrupted by the Priest-Elders of the Protonic Flame, from Daxam. They want Lar Gand (Mon-El). Superman tells them that Lar Gand can't be returned as he is very ill, and warns them they might suffer from the same problem, lead poisoning. They consider that a threat, and attack. Paragon starts to support them, but they want nothing to do with him, insulting him. So he switches to Superman's side and attacks, taking the battle back to over Metropolis. Paragon gets a gun with lead bullets, and shoots one round at them. But Superman stops him from killing the Daxamites. They flee, but Paragon agrees to keep an eye on them, while Superman works on a cure for their lead poisoning (which is less advanced than Mon-El's). They unleash their ultimate weapon, the Galactic Golem, to destroy Earth. Superman offers to cure the poisoning, but they don't believe him. Paragon and Superman end up fighting the Golem, with no effect. Paragon wants to give up, but Superman goads him into helping for one last time, allowing Superman to penetrate the Golem's shell, and destroy it. Weakened, Superman could be killed by Paragon, but he decides not to and escapes. Superman confronts the Daxamites and again offers the cure, but they want nothing of it, and engage the self-destruct on their ship.
