Synopsis
College is out for the summer and Buffy asks Giles and her mother for advice about what she should do now that Riley wants to spend more time with her. Giles goes out on a date with Rebecca Stansberry, a librarian in town for a summer seminar at the university. Riley is severely injured when he and ex-Intiative buddy, Forrest Gates, are assaulted by the ghost of a homeless man who was killed by vampires and wants his stolen ring back. Buffy, Willow, Zander, and Anya track down the vampire, retrieve the stolen ring and return it to the ghost, but Riley remains in a coma.

Synopsis
While searching for the ghost that put Riley in a coma, Forrest is infected by the giant insects that are plaguing Sunnydale. Giles and Rebecca go to a mixer for the attendees of the librarian seminar and run into Warren Whitcomb, Sunnydale's expert on insects. While leaving the mixer, Giles and Rebecca are attacked by a partially transformed Forrest. Willow, Tara, Zander, and Anya try to come up with a way to defeat the insects. Buffy goes on patrol and is assisted by Spike as she is attacked by the giant bugs.

Synopsis
Dr. Warren Whitcomb, Sunnydale's most famous entomologist is abducted from his lab. Xander, Anya, Willow, Tara, Buffy and Spike rendezvous at Giles' place and come up with a plan to combat the giant insects. Spike realizes the infection devices used by the giant bugs contain magic stones, and so he splits up from the group. Using a fully transformed Forrest to lead them to the insects' lair, the group is soon surrounded by a swarm of insects.

Synopsis
Riley awakens from his coma and arrives at Giles' house just in time to keep Spike from taking away the magic stone in the insects' infestation device. In the lair of the giant insects, the hive queen, speaking through the body of Dr. Whitcomb, tells of the hive's plan to take over the surface world. Riley and Spike arrive at the insect lair in time to save the gang from being killed. Buffy uses the magic stone to find and destroy the hive's power source while Giles kills the body of Dr. Whitcomb. Upon returning to Giles' house, the gang finds Rebecca safe and sound.

Synopsis
Buffy is dealing with the knowledge that her sister Dawn is a mystical key who was recently sent to her by supernatural forces who gave everyone false memories of Dawn's childhood. Meanwhile a Japanese vampire decides to go to Sunnydale and kill the slayer. When Buffy gets angry at Dawn for following her out on patrol Dawn reminds her that she helped Xander save her life when she was bitten by the Master. Dawn also tells her that she found evidence that two hundred years ago there no slayer. Buffy leaves to go out on patrol and when she returns home she finds that her sister is missing.

Synopsis
Buffy goes to the Magic Box to find Dawn, and Willow suggests that Dawn might be with Xander because she used to have a crush on him. Xander enters the shop and says that he hasn't seen Dawn. Buffy learns from Harmony that Dawn is at Spike's crypt and she goes there to take Dawn home. The servants of the Japanese vampire also go to the crypt and steal an object from Spike called the Eidu Amulet. Spike tells Buffy that Giles is withholding information from her about the missing slayer. When Buffy confronts Giles about the missing slayer, he refuses to tell Buffy anything about her.

Synopsis
When Buffy returns home with Dawn, Dawn tells her she would rather spend time with Spike, than with Riley or Angel. Spike is paid by the Japanese vampire to lure Buffy to the old high school in time to witness a special ceremony. While attempting to figure out what Eidu Amulet is, Willow reminds Buffy that Dawn was almost killed by Angel when he turned into Angelus. The Japanese vampire confronts Buffy and reveals herself to be the missing slayer. Later, Giles admits to knowing that Yuki Makimura, the forgotten slayer-turned vampire, plans to use the Eidu Amulet to resurrect the Master.

Synopsis
Giles explains that the Eidu are a sect of monk-like vampires who worship the Master. They will use their amulet to draw the Master's spirit out of the spirit dimension so it can enter a sacrificial body. Willow, Anya and Tara come up with a plan to stop the Eidu. When the gang reaches the site of the old high school they find that Xander is the sacrificial body. Buffy stakes Yuki, Willow & Tara prevent the Master's astral body from entering Xander, and Giles tries to kill the Master's astral body with a vapour blade. He loses the blade, and so Dawn kills the Master's astral body.
