Bill Blackbeard's introduction says that Lyonel Feininger was a renowned European cartoonist at that time (although born and raised in the U.S), and was hired by the Tribune to appeal to the large German population in the Chicago area.

The first appearance of the strip was titled "Wee Willie Winkie's World, or how things looked to Wee Willie Winkie". Successive strips had the name of the feature, but no additional title. The strips are not dated (other than the year of copyright) and this book does not say which dates the series began or ended. The dates in the reprint note per Don Markstein's Toonopedia site.
