Indexer Notes

Somewhat based on the cover to Superman (DC, 1939 series) #300 (June 1976). Dick Giordano in an email to the indexer has confirmed that he inked this cover, and suspects that he pencilled it based on a layout from Carmine Infantino. However, it also seems to have a Curt Swan look, particularly Jor-El and Lara.

Synopsis
Jor-El has detected that Krypton will explode and shows his findings to the Kryptonian council, who don’t believe him. To escape Krypton before the explosion, Jor-El builds a small rocket as a test model. But time runs out and he is forced to launch it containing just his son, Kal-El. The rocket comes to Earth and is found by the Kents, who raise Kal-El as their son, Clark. Due to Earth's gravity and yellow sun, Clark gains powers and becomes a superhero named Superboy. After his parents die, he moves to Metropolis and becomes a reporter for the Daily Planet and fights crime as Superman.

Indexer Notes

The Comic Reader #191 (May-June 1981) lists the artists as "Rich Buckler/Dick Giordano". In separate emails to the indexer, Rich Buckler has confirmed that he pencilled it, Mike DeCarlo has confirmed that Dick Giordano inked it, and Todd Klein has confirmed that Ben Oda did the letters. On January 20, 2020, Martin Pasko posted on Facebook that he was selling a copy for sale on eBay autographed by himself as the writer.
