Synopsis
Ari, who fought in the 1982 war in Lebanon, is told by an old friend of a haunting dream evoking those days. The experience prompts him to speak to other former soldiers and psychologists in hopes of both understanding and filling in the large gaps in his memory of fighting in Beirut and of the infamous massacre in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps.

Indexer Notes

Credits on cover simply read "Ari Folman and David Polonsky". Folman is the writer, director, and producer of the film from which the text and illustrations are taken; Polonsky served as art director and chief illustrator. Acknowledgements in the book thank Yoni Goodman, the film's storyboard artist, saying "the illustrations here took their cue from his essential work". A. Hanuka, Faust, T. Hanuka, and Buchman are thanked in that order as those members of the eight-person illustration team "whose drawings are included in this book". Polonsky spoke about editor Hocherman's acquisition of the book for Metropolitan, as well as some distribution of artistic labor, in a Publisher's Weekly interview posted online 13 January 2009; Hocherman is credited with the book's translation from Hebrew at the Words without Borders website (both pages accessed by indexer 25 August 2009).
