For a long time, the Swamp Thing believed that he was Alec Holland, transformed into a monster. He eventually discovered that he was merely plant matter that had absorbed Alec Holland's consciousness, and that Alec had actually died when he was first created.

Husband of Abigail Arcane. Spiritual father of Tefé Holland.

Notes:

The Swamp Thing first appeared in Swamp Thing (DC, 1972 series) #1 (October-November 1972). He discovered that he was not Alec Holland in The Saga of Swamp Thing (DC, 1982 series) #21 (February 1984). After the events of The Saga of Swamp Thing (DC, 1982 series) #34 (March 1985), Abby Arcane-Cable and the Swamp Thing considered themselves to be married. In Swamp Thing (DC, 1985 series) #76 (September 1988), Tefé was conceived when the Swamp Thing inhabited John Constantine's body and impregnated Abby. Abby gave birth to their daughter Tefé in Swamp Thing (DC, 1985 series) #90 (December 1989).
