Un duffle-coat marron fait également partie de son dressing.

Personnage créé par André Franquin dans le Journal de Spirou no 985 du 28 février 1957. Dans la série Gaston, Gaston travaille au journal de Spirou. Il gagne le statut de héros sans emploi. Dans cet univers, Fantasio est le rédacteur en chef du journal de Spirou et il dirige les employés. Ainsi, c’est Fantasio qui présente Gaston lors de sa première apparition. Spirou est le héros du magazine; il fait de brèves apparitions ponctuelles puis disparaît quasiment au fil des albums. Franquin avait conçu Gaston pour faire de l’animation dans le Journal de Spirou. La forme graphique de Gaston est élaborée par Franquin, alors que sa personnalité est créée avec l’aide d’Yvan Delporte, rédacteur-en-chef de Spirou. Le nom de Gaston, lui aussi, est trouvé par Delporte, d’après celui de l’un de ses amis, qui était gaffeur lui aussi.
