Disambiguation: Wendell Vaughn

First published in: 1978

Description:
Wendell Vaughn was on guard duty at a research facility where a team of scientists were performing experiments on the Quantum Bands retrieved after the disintegration of The Crusader. A S.H.I.E.L.D. agent was selected to wear the bands in order to test them, but he lost control of the power and was disintegrated. Shortly thereafter, criminal scientists from A.I.M. attempted to steal the bands. Wendell put them on and managed to repel the attack. He was able to avoid the fate of the agent by remaining calm and in control. His actions led to him being recruited for the new S.H.I.E.L.D. Super-Agents team. Although he was given the codename "Marvel Boy", he quickly decided "Marvel Man" was more appropriate. He later changed his codename to "Quasar", and was eventually selected to be Protector of the Universe by the cosmic entity known as Eon.
