Dust

Disambiguation: Marvel, mutant

First published in: 2002

Description:
Dust is an Afghani mutant who was rescued from slavery by Wolverine and Fantomex. She has the ability to transform into a destructive sand blast, and while she is in her sand form she has telepathic resistance (even from Professor X and Jean Grey level telepaths) as well as magical resistance. The downside is that her sand form is vulnerable to water and wind, and is sensitive to heat. Dust's costume consists of an abaya with a niqab veil, as is customary for traditional Sunni Muslim women in the Persian Gulf states of the Middle East, though in the comics her clothes are often called a "burqa", which is technically incorrect. Dust has been a member of a number of mutant groups including the X-Men, Young X-Men, New X-Men, Champions, Special Class, and Hellions Squad.
Notes:

First appearance of Dust is in New X-Men (Marvel, 2001 series) #133.

Dust was created by Grant Morrison and Ethan van Sciver.
