Doctor Fate

English

Disambiguation: Kent Nelson

First published in: 1940

Description:
When Kent Nelson donned the Helmet of Fate, he merged with Nabu, a Lord of Order, to form Doctor Fate. As Doctor Fate, Nabu's personality was usually the dominant one. At one point, Kent became so concerned about Nabu's control, that he abandoned the Helmet of Fate, and instead created a half helmet to hide his identity. He wore this helment from the Summer of 1941 to at least April 1945. He eventually returned to the use of the full helmet, giving control back to Nabu.
Notes:

Created by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman. Kent Nelson first appeared as Doctor Fate in More Fun Comics (DC, 1936 comics) #55 (May 1940). His origin was revealed in More Fun Comics (DC, 1936 series) #67 (May 1941). Kent changed from the full helmet to a half helmet in More Fun Comics (DC, 1936 series) #72 (October 1941). In Justice League of America (DC, 1960 series) #21 (August 1963), it was shown that Kent had returned to wearing the full helmet. In Showcase (1956 series) #55 (March-April 1965), it was revealed that Kent had married Inza Cramer. Kent Nelson died and his corpse was taken over by Nabu in Doctor Fate (DC, 1987 series) #4 (October 1987). He was brought back to life in Doctor Fate (DC, 1988 series) #24 (January 1991). He died once again in The Book of Fate (DC, 1997 series) #1 (February 1997).
