Biography: Ramponi’s pen name, Kremos, was created when he was conscripted into the Italian army for a year after World War II. Instead of abandoning his budding cartooning and illustration career, which was required by military regulations, Ramponi had a friend named Sandro Cremo act as his intermediary to secure and deliver freelance art assignments. To obscure his involvement, Ramponi signed his work Kremos, a pseudonym that stuck even after his discharge from military duty. In 1957, however, another artist tried to lay legal claim to the name Kremos, so Ramponi abandoned the pen name and began to sign his work by his first name, Niso. In the 1950s, much of his work appeared in the Italian satirical newspaper Il Travaso delle Idee.

Ramponi's work outside of cartooning included collaborating with Federico Fellini in animation and creating movie posters for Walt Disney. He accepted an offer in 1962 to teach animation at the Scuola della Vasca Navale. Due to the workload, his cartoons' appearances in Il Travaso stopped in 1963. He went on to produce award winning animation on some of Italy’s most popular TV programs, such as Carosello in 1972.
