Marvel's second Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau was created by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr. She originally appeared in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16, then joined the Avengers for several years. She starred in two one-shots, in 1989 and 1994. The character no longer goes by this name. She had no connection to Marvel's original Captain Marvel.
