- Johnson Smith sold a wide variety of toys, leather goods, novelties, instruction books, electrical goods, B-B and blank guns, jewelry, clothing, and other miscellaneous goods. A catalog offering even more merchandise was also offered in the ads. Ads were usually full-pages offering dozens of different products, though occasionally individual products were advertised. In its first ads in comic books in 1935, the company was given as Johnson Smith & Co. of Racine, Wisconsin. By 1936 it had moved to Detroit, Michigan. It continued advertising in comic books through at least 1981, by which time the name was given as Johnson Smith Company of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit.
