Feature known alternately as “Johnny Gruelle’s Raggedy Ann” and “Raggedy Ann and Andy”.
Raggedy Ann was created by writer and illustrator Johnny Gruelle in 1915, and is a rag doll who shares adventures with other such dolls (notably Raggedy Andy), various toys, small anthropomorphic animals, etc. in a charming fantasy setting.
In comic books, Raggedy Ann is best known for a run in the Dell Comics title New Funnies (issues 65-111) and one-shots as part of the Dell Four Color series.
The stories were primarily written by Gaylord DuBois and illustrated by George Kerr in a style that went well beyond typical children’s comic book fare.
