New Mutants

English

Genre: superhero

Created in: 1982

Notes:
The New Mutants were a superhero group created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. They were one of the first X-Men spin-offs. At the time of their creation, most of the X-Men were adults who lived and trained at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Kitty Pryde was the only team member who was actually a student. New Mutants introduced a new generation of students, teenagers who weren't ready to be X-Men, but needed a place to learn to control their new-found abilities. Like the parent group, New Mutants was an ensemble title, with a slowly expanding cast and much interpersonal drama.

The original group eventually moved on to become the original X-Force.

By the early 2000s, Xavier's School had become home to a large supporting cast of students, and a new New Mutants group was formed from them. This group eventually became New X-Men: Academy X, with a smaller core group still known as the New Mutants.

In 2009 most of the original group were reunited again as the New Mutants.
