Notes:
One of MGM's earliest cartoon stars, predating Tom and Jerry. Barney Bear made his first appearance in the 1939 MGM theatrical animated short “The Bear That Couldn't Sleep”, directed by Rudolph Ising.

First comic book appearance: Our Gang Comics (Dell, 1942 Series) #1 (August-September 1942).

Barney has had solo comic book stories, been paired with a faithful pal named Benny Burro (in a series of stories that was, for a time, written and drawn by Carl Barks), and eventually became guardian for his two nephews Fuzzy and Wuzzy.
