Creators: Richard F. Outcault b. 1863; Edward W. Townsend b. 1855. Similarly named to the play, McFadden's Row of Flats, by Gus Hill (London, 22 Oct 1896). The feature appears in issues of American Humorist (New York American and Journal, 1896 series) beginning October 18, 1896. This is the first of three features for the Yellow Kid after migrating with Outcault from Pulitzer to Hearst. Note that there were two competing versions of the Yellow Kid in New York papers for more than a year as George Luks drew Hogan’s Alley for Pulitzer’s World from 11 Oct 1896 until 5 Dec 1897, and Outcault drew the Kid for Hearst’s Journal at the same time.
