Synopsis

Gillian sings in a Singapore nightclub to support her sister after her father died. She hates her work, but gets an opportunity to escape it for a while when she is invited to visit a plantation near the one her father had owned. Her sister asks Gillian not to mention the fact that she works in a nightclub while on the visit, but when she meets her host's assistant he recognizes her from the club.

Indexer Notes

Note at the bottom of the splash page states: "Previously published 1972". That story in Love Story Picture Library (IPC, 1952 series) #1016 was titled "The Gilded Cage" and that version was modified to make room for the 9-page backup story. In this version, Gillian has dark hair. In the 1972 version, Gillian was portrayed as a blonde and the changes do not appear to be the work of the original artist. The cover story for True Life Library (IPC, 1954 series) #582 (1967) was also titled "The Real Me" and is presumed to be the same story. From information in the 1972 reprint, the story was originally published in 1962 but that issue has not been identified yet.
