Indexer Notes

All cartoons previously appeared in The New Yorker. Most are signed Helen E. Hokinson, with some variants such as H. E. Hokinson. According to several essays in the posthumous The Hokinson Festival, beginning in 1931 James Reid Parker wrote most of the captions for Miss Hokinson's drawings. Earlier captions were often written by editors and staff at The New Yorker.
