Synopsis
Origin story. Young John Tane's father is sheriff and expects his son to follow him. His mother says "Books are better than bullets", and John promises to be a schoolteacher. Yet his father is aging and needs him. So John becomes two people and adopt the identity of "Johnny" + "Thunder" during a storm. He changes clothes, blacks his hair, changes his speech, and becomes an unofficial sheriff, saving his father from bandits, then resuming his identity of John Tane, schoolteacher.

This is a Silver Age revamp of Johnny Thunder and All-Star Western. JT always wore cavalry pants, a white hat, and a fringed jacket. Now he wears red and blue.

Synopsis
Sheriff Walt Trigger saves an Indian's life and his given a lucky charm he carries in his holster. Brother Wayne warns he'll push his luck too far. Hunting thieves in the desert, Walt barely defeats them with Wayne's secret help. And Wayne also stole the lucky charm from his holster - to show what Walt can do without it.
