She writes Vic to tell him she is in love with someone else, but is stunned to learn that she had bound herself to a man who cared nothing for her.

Synopsis
Haunted by memories of the man in Oxbridge Hospital who had been her first, only love, Pauline goes to visit her brother in the hospital while her thoughts were on the bed behind him. When her brother returns home from the hospital, he finds Pauline in tears and she tells him everything. He tells her he had talked to the man quite a bit, discovering he was sorry for his past and that he seemed quite lonely. Hearing this, Pauline returns to the hospital to visit him and discovers he is glad to see her.

Synopsis
Sharon plans to save money to get a bike to get to know Spike better, but doesn't have the will power. She gets another chance when the gang plans to save to holiday in Jersey, but again she can't manage to save anything. The last straw comes when she finds out that Spike and Pat got engaged on that holiday. Walking alone with her thoughts, she comes upon a man fishing in the pond. She eventually falls in love with him and he asks her to marry him. She surprises her parents by saving enough money to put down a deposit on a house.

But her hopes seem to be shattered when he asks her to deliver an invitation to an old flame to accompany him to the harvest ball. Despite his own feelings for Nora, Ken brings Tony and Nora together.

Synopsis
Invited by James, her landlord and next door neighbour, to a carnival on the island, Tessa leaves late and has to swim there. At first she dances with James, then when the Paul Jones is started, Teddy becomes her new partner. When Teddy brings her over to talk with Desiree, it is clear to Tessa that Desiree thinks she is out to steal his boyfriend. Neither James nor Teddy seem to notice that the girls disliked each other. When the dancing was finished, the four of them shared a rowboat, but Teddy started rocking the boat and the boat turns over.

Jane tells her mum everything and she points out that Jane was judging Nick by what other people said because she didn't believe any of those things were true until other people pointed them out.
