Synopsis
Tony neglects his official duties as director of SHIELD as he and Maya perform an autopsy on a dead ecoterrorist with cybernetic enhancements who killed members of Team Alpha. Karim tracks down Tem Borjigin in a psychiatric facility in China and offers him the ten rings of the Mandarin as he believes Tem to be the villain in disguise. When Tem refuses to respond and is threatened with a gun, he easily dispatches Karim and his men. Dugan gives Tony a lecture about the responsibility of a soldier who has men under his command.

Synopsis
Doc Samson recruits Captain Ultra to help him track down the missing Tony Stark. Trying to be helpful, Maya tells Tem that she has written a code into his deadly new virus that renders it useless unless it comes into instant contact with a human and Tem finds that he cannot undo her unsolicited work. Tony discovers that the people he is searching for who have been abducted for human experimentation all share something in common with his genetic code. Iron Man battles one of the missing mentally handicapped kids and discovers that someone has given him powers using the Extremis process.

Synopsis
Tony confesses to Samson that he has been talking to ghosts but the good Doctor has a reasonable explanation. Maya calls Kooning to demand to know why he ordered her to remove the fail safes on the Extremis project but he has no idea what she is talking about. Tem explains that he is the one who has been giving the orders because he wants to use Extremis to wipe out over 97% of the earth's population. Iron Man learns from Kooning that Maya is still alive and has been working on Extremis for the government. Iron Man hightails it to Omaha as he quickly realizes that Tem is really the Mandarin.

Synopsis
Kooning tracks down the Mandarin in order to kill him but fails in his attempt. With the Mandarin in possession of an airborne version of Extremis and on the brink of using it to kill over 97% of the earth's population, Tony is stuck answering to a UN investigative committee regarding the bomb he detonated in Omaha. When the committee rules to arrest Tony and bring him up on formal charges, Dum Dum calls in a SHIELD rescue team to extract him. Iron Man battles the Mandarin and stops the Extremis plague and a grateful UN reverses its decision to hold him as a criminal.

Synopsis

Nasim has hired Paladin to deliver a message to his old pal and gives the hero a gun that drains Tony's Iron Man suit completely of power. Agent Weir tries to regain control of the Overkill Mind machine which he has activated but ends up merging with the giant mechanical brain and decides to use it to teach Tony and SHIELD a lesson.

Synopsis
After being attacked by Paladin on behalf of Rahimov, Iron Man surprises the mercenary by internally fixing his armor and taking down the merc. His hunt for Rahimov and the pocket nukes is put on hold, however, as he has to face Nicholas Weir who has become part of the giant Overkill Mind as it threatens the Helicarrier. Despite Iron Man's intervention, the Overkill Mind activates all of the weaponry on board the Helicarrier with only a two and a half minute countdown to detonation.

Synopsis
Iron Man invades the Overkill Mind and tries to keep the deadly machine from detonating all of the ordnance on the Helicarrier. He succeeds in separating agent Nicolas Weir from the doomsday device and ending the threat. Tony is then off to confront terrorist Nasim Rahimov but finds that the only way to stop his old friend from detonating mini nukes in strategic places is to let him be killed.
