Indexer Notes

Copr. 1946 by Howard R. Garris.

Gaylord Du Bois writer credit per Gaylord Du Bois, Gaylord Du Bois's Account Books Sorted by Title compiled from the original account books by Randall W. Scott (Michigan State University Libraries 1985) 203 leaves ; 28 cm. -- Photocopy of computer printout. -- Call no.: PN6727.D77 A2S35 1985, page 5, which states: "Uncle Wiggily. 8p. For New Funnies #24 [probably Animal Comics?]. Submitted September 11, 1945."

The page count as published is 10 pages. The panel-count per page presents as: 8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8, making 80 panels total.

This was obviously not written as an 8-page story, as the account books entry states. However, given the November 12, 1946 on-sale date, one may conjecture editorial shuffling: per the published Account Books, Du Bois had resumed submitting 10-page Uncle Wiggily scripts earlier that year, the third of which was submitted March 16. If the editor were to have used that third of the resumed 10-page scripts, and veteran illustrator H. R. McBride illustrated that 80 panel 10 page script quickly, it could easily have seen publication by November 12.
