Queen Hippolyta; General Philippus; Steve Trevor; Epione (Amazon healer); Areto (Amazon teacher); Castalia (Amazon spiritual leader); Princess Diana of Themyscira [Wonder Woman]; Sofia (Amazon); Io (Amazon)
Synopsis
Hippolyta convenes an Amazon council to determine what course of action to take now that a man from the outside world has landed on Themyscira. There is a difference of opinion, but ultimately they listen to Castalia who believes the gods allowed Steve to find them and that it is a sign that the Amazons must help the outside world face a coming threat. It is decided to hold a tournament to determine an Amazon champion to accompany Steve back to man's world to face this threat. Diana wins the tournament and will accompany Steve back to the outside world.

Indexer Notes

There are some differences from past accounts of the tournament that determines the Amazon champion who will leave Themyscira to accompany Steve back to the outside world. In this version, Hippolyta does not forbid Diana to compete, and she fearfully expects Diana to be the winner. Also, the Amazons have never seen firearms until examining Steve's weapons, so they had never practiced "bullets and bracelets" before it is used as a tie-breaker to determine the tournament champion.

Synopsis
Steve and Diana arrive in the US, where they are detained and de-briefed by federal agents. Unable to overcome the language barrier with Diana, the military brings in an expert who can interpret her language, Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva. Steve tells Maya about Nick's death. Diana is visited in her holding cell by her patron Gods, appearing as animals, who grant Diana special gifts.
Reprints

Indexer Notes

Diana has a vision of her patron Gods appearing to her as animals. She identifies Hephaestus appearing as a white mouse and Hermes as a tortoise. The other Gods she names as visiting her are Athena, Hera, Artemis, Demeter, and Aphrodite. It is not clear which animal each of these remaining Gods appeared as.

The Gods bestow gifts on Diana, which apparently are in the form of powers including super strength. It is noted in Part 4 that prior to her visit from the Gods, Diana did not possess super strength or the ability fly.

Dr. Perez, the expert in Ancient Greek, bears a resemblance to former Wonder Woman writer/artist George Perez.

Indexer Notes

A Year One interlude. Story is set in the past prior to Wonder Woman leaving Themyscira and prior to Barbara Ann Minerva becoming the Cheetah.

Wonder Woman does not appear in this story.

A couple of Gods appear to be guiding Barbara Ann to her discoveries, appearing as a white mouse and an owl. In Year One Part 3, Hephaestus appeared to Diana as a white mouse. The owl is possibly Athena, although that is not specified.

Barbara Ann Minerva uncovers the crypt of Lysippe, the twelfth queen of the Amazons, leading her to surmise that there are 11 more to find. However, Year One Part 3 Diana introduces herself to Dr. Minerva as the daughter of Hippolyta, the tenth queen of the Amazons, whom we know to be very much alive. Possibly this inconsistency will be addressed in a future issue.

At the end of the story, Diana, who is still in a trance-like state, is checked into a psychiatric hospital by Steve under the name "Diana Prince".

Adrianna, Cale's holographic assistant, is revealed to be also known as Doctor Cyber in issue #15.

Indexer Notes

At the end of this chapter, Diana learns that the media have given her the name Wonder Woman.

It is revealed in this chapter that Diana no longer has the knowledge of Themyscira's location, that is the sacrifice she made to come to defend the outside world.

Diana's patron gods again appear to her as animals, this time to aide her against Ares. We see a white mouse, which was previously identified as Hephaestus, and a tortoise, which was previously identified as Hermes. It is not clear which of the remaining animals the other patron gods appeared as.
