Synopsis
As part of an incredible series of victories in 1941 and 1942, the Japanese smash a combined American-British-Dutch-Australian fleet at the Battle of the Java Sea. The only allied surviving ships, U.S.S. Houston and H.M.A.S. Perth, attempt to fight their way southward toward Australia. Both are sunk at the Battle of Sunda Strait.
Although this page is usually reserved to recall the exploits of famous military leaders... we will use it to describe a diplomatic battle... the consequences of which were more significant than those usually achieved by guns, tanks, boats and bombs.
Although it seemed at certain times during the war in the Pacific that Japan's punch could not be stemmed... the fact is that Japan does not have the natural resources to maintain a position as a first rate world power.
Out of the chaos and confusion, the death and destruction of war, man has always attempted to bestow rewards upon the men of battle who have fought well.
