Issue Notes

The first English language edition of Hugo Pratt's story "L'uomo del grande nord" published in year 1980 as issue 28 of the Italian album series "Un uomo un'avventura" ("One man, one adventure"). The book includes additional scenes drawn as storyboards for a live-action film adaptation entitled "Jesuit Joe", as well as an unfinished second story from 1984 that picks up where the first tale ends.

The original story of 48 pages is expanded and intermixed with 21 pages of additional scenes drawn as storyboards for a live-action film adaptation entitled "Jesuit Joe".

The first publication of the original story occurred in black and white in the French magazine Pilote Mensuel #74-77 in 1980 with the title "Jésus Joe", and with coloring by Anne Frognier in the Italian album "L'uomo del Grande Nord". The storyboard pages were originally published in the Italian magazine Corto Maltese #97-99.

Translation of the original story from Italian by Simone Castaldi and Dean Mullaney. Translation of the storyboard pages from French by Ariane Levesque Looker and Dean Mullaney, these pages also contain an excerpt from "Ballad of the Women of Paris" by François Villon translated by John Payne.
