Synopsis
A patient in a hospital dictates a letter to a nurse for her boyfriend, who is out of town for a few weeks. She wants to break the news that there is now someone else in her life, but the nurse is smitten with the patient's old boyfriend herself and can't bear to hurt him. Instead, she writes love letters to him on the patient's behalf, thinking the patient will change her mind when they meet again.

Synopsis
Two older sisters receive letters from their younger sister. Reading between the lines, they realize that she is no longer planning to marry her fiance that summer. They hurry home to find out what's going on to discover that the younger sister has stopped seeing her boyfriend because he wants to work at a gas station instead of being an engineer. One of the older sisters slaps her and shows her a newspaper clipping with the town's family of the year. She tells her sister that it could have been her family, but she had been too proud to settle for a man who wanted to run a hardware store.

Synopsis
A writer driving in the country on a working vacation catches a glimpse of a girl crying on a bus and can't get her out of his mind. He returns to the small town restaurant and finds her sitting alone. He discovers her boyfriend had gotten a new job in another city and, over time, their letters slowed until she received a letter telling her he didn't love her anymore. Having used up all her money, she gets a job as a waitress to save enough to go see her boyfriend. The writer stays on too, hoping she will eventually turn to him as more than a friend.
