A Nazi spy murders Erskine before he can create an army of men like Rogers, and is killed when he runs headlong into some machinery. Rogers becomes Captain America, and begins a career of smashing spy rings and the like. He goes undercover as a private at Camp Lehigh and befriends orphan mascot Bucky Barnes. When Bucky discovers his secret, he becomes Cap's partner. In their first adventure together, they stop saboteurs and a German sub.
