The JSA is shanghaied into space by Gootsden's rockets, but Harbinger's efforts to return to the Monitor's satellite sends them all off course to different dimensional versions of Pluto, Uranus, Neptune, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mercury, and Mars. The Freedom Fighters go to Earth-X as Uncle Sam tells them he needs them there to win World War II, lest all be lost. While battling Nazi scientists, Commander Steel is accidentally sent to Earth-1, where he builds a new life for himself.

Indexer Notes

Wraps up the 'Shanghaied into hyperspace' story started in # 50 (based on All-Star Comics (DC, 1940 series) # 13. Includes pin-up pages of the All-Star Squadron as part of the story, one is after Mekanique's changes take place (page 22, without Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, but with Human Bomb, The Jester, Phantom Lady, Black Condor, Uncle Sam, The Ray, and Plastic Man in their place in center), and one is BEFORE her changes take place (page 16, with Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman in center). Also of note, Green Arrow (Earth-2) and Speedy (Earth-2) were erroneously in both portraits before the edict was made that they also were no longer part of pre-crisis continuity, as stated by Roy Thomas in a later issue of All-Star Squadron, since they also had doppelgangers (Silver and Golden Age versions pre-Crisis). Last true Squadron story before Young All-Stars (DC, 1987 series) # 1 and post-Crisis continuity. Issue #'s 61-67 origin stories (as fillers).

Gardner is granted a ring by a militant minority faction of the Guardians (as seen in Crisis on Infinite Earths (DC, 1985 series) #9). Gardner develops his peculiar attitude problem, presumably a result of his brain injury at Sinestro's hands in the antimatter universe (Green Lantern (DC, 1976 series) #116 and #123) as the Guardians were slowly healing him to full recovery (behind the scenes revealed this issue). Gardner's history is recapped, and he gets his new tough-guy costume.

Sinestro goes to OA alongside John Stewart and Katma Tui to warn the surviving Guardians of the renegade Guardians' plan (killed in Crisis on Infinite Earths (DC, 1985 series) #9 and recapped in Green Lantern (DC, 1976 series) #195). At first he isn't believed by them, until a possessed Arisia (by the Main Power Battery) tells them what he speaks is true. The entire surviving Green Lantern Corps then head to the antimatter universe to stop the plan, while Sinestro is placed in a cell.
