- In Shadizar, Conan meets the beautiful waitress Jenna. She is however kidnapped by religious fanatics and taken to be sacrificed to the mysterious night god. The god no-one has ever seen is revealed to be a gigantic bat-like creature. Conan saves Jenna from the bat creature, while Jenna in her turn saves Conan from the priestess Hajii. Jenna then steals all his gold and leaves.

- Synopsis
- Conan saves Lady Aztrias of Numalia from a pack of wolves. She hires Conan to steal from the wealthy merchant Kallian, who temporarily houses a mysterious bowl from Stygia, said to contain a great treasure. Conan burgles the merchant's house, finds the bowl empty and Kallian dead. The city guard appears and Lady Aztrias accuses him of killing Kallian. The real killer was in the bowl, however; a serpent-man, a big snake with a human head. Conan kills the sepent-man and saves Demetrio. In a vision, Conan sees the Stygian sorcerer Thoth-Amon.

- Conan comes across the ruins of the ancient city of Lanjau, where he battles a giant lizard. He meets Captain Burgun, who he had left for dead, and they both decide to work together in order to retrieve the lost treasure of Lanjau. Undead creatures, keepers of the crypt, try to stop them but are defeated by sunlight. An earthquake buries the mercenary, Lanjau and the treasure. Conan comes to a nearby village, where he once again meets Jenna. When soldiers come to arrest him, Conan and Jenna flee the village on a horse.

- Conan becomes Captain of the Royal Guard in the small city-state of Zahmahn as well as the lover of Queen Fatima. When the queen catches Conan with the servant girl Yaila in a delicate situation, she leaves them in the dungeon to be devoured by the Dweller in the Dark. They manage to escape, however, and Conan throws the queen to the monster. According to tradition, Zahmahn can only be ruled by a female sovereign, so Conan nominates Yaila as the new queen.

Fafnir has lost his arm in battle and is thrown overboard by Balthaz to drown because he is already as good as dead. Angry, Conan kills Balthaz and flees Yezdigerd's ship.

According to an interview with Craig Russell in Conan: The Jewels of Gwahlur, only the first page and a couple of separate panels were fully drawn by Barry Smith, Val Mayerik completed figure work and Russell backgrounds. Inker Dan Adkins fell behind and called on them to do finished inks. In Back Issue #67 Russell stated he along with Val Mayerik did the finished pencil work, with Russell, Mayerik and Mark Kersey completing the inking.

- Conan becomes Captain of the royal guard in the small city-state of Zahmahn as well as the lover of Queen Fatima. When the Queen catches Conan with the servant girl Yaila in a delicate situation, she leaves them in the dungeon to be devoured by the Dweller in the Dark. They manage to escape, however, and Conan throws the Queen to the monster. According to tradition, Zahmahn can only be ruled by a female sovereign, so Conan nominates Yaila as the new queen.
