Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Diamond halted distribution of new releases from April 1 thru May 13, 2020. DC contracted with two new distributors, Lunar Distribution and UCS Comic Distributors, to distribute comics during the Diamond shutdown and beyond, with issues available for sale on Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays. Retailers who used Lunar Distribution or UCS Comic Distributors had this issue available for sale on May 5, 2020. Retailers who used Diamond did not have this issue available for sale until May 27, 2020.

Indexer Notes

The story is the origin of the Helena Wayne Huntress. Some sources identify this issue as the joint first appearance of the character with All-Star Comics (DC, 1976 series) #69. Those sources claim both issues were released on August 24, 1977. However, copyright records state All-Star Comics #69 was published on August 23, while DC Super Stars #17 was published on August 25.

In the text page for this issue, Paul Levitz mentions that Joe Orlando had to step in as guest editor for this story, as DC policy at the time said that no editor should write for himself. Since Levitz was the writer for this story, Orlando had to step in as the editor.
