- Fleeing from the Picts, Conan comes across a cave filled with treasures â and a terrible demon! Nearby, Zingarian nobleman Valenso has settled with his family up north to escape his past. Rival pirate captains, Strombanni and Zarono, land on the shores of Valensos domain, seeking the lost treasure of Tranicos. Valenso is not interested, but when he learns that the Stygian magician Thoth-Amon has been sighted nearby, he panics and declares he will do anything to board a ship. They are joined by Conan, who now is the only one who knows the location of the treasure.

- Synopsis
- Conan leads the rival pirate captains Strombanni and Zarono to the treasure of Tranicos, hoping that the guardian demon will kill them. Conan's plan fails, and they all form another uneasy alliance to battle the Picts and make it back to Valenso's fort. The fort is eventually overrun by the Picts and Valenso atones for his transgressions against Thoth-Amon when he is killed by a demon. Conan saves Valenso's niece and her servant girl and is rescued by a delegation of Aquilonian noblemen who ask him to help overthrow their mad king. The ever ambitious Conan agrees.

As Conan breaks into the wizard's stronghold, he encounters unexpected rivals; Ajhindar, in the employ of the king of Iranistand, along with Isparana and Karamek, working for the true owner of the talisman, the Khan of Zamboula. Isparana escapes with the talisman while Conan is left to face the wrath of Hisarr Zul, who imprisons Conan's soul in a mirror and tasks him with retrieving the talisman.

- Conan crosses the desert on his way to Zamboula, chasing Isparana and the talisman known as the Eye of Erlik which she has stolen from Hisarr Zul. In an oasis, he is attacked by two robbers and kills them. Shortly thereafter, Conan meets the Turanian soldier Arsil and his men and learns that they are searching for the robbers he just killed. He is told of a shortcut through the mountains, guarded by a sand demon who turns out to be Hisarr Zul's brother Tosya. He lets Conan go, provided that he kills Hisarr Zul.
